Table Football: Maltese player competes in Open Category

During the last weekend of March, the Italian Federation FIGCT organized the 41 Grand Prix Table Football inside Catania. Among various categories there was also organized the team event which was won by Catania SC. In addition a Maltese Player which plays for Fiamme Azzurre took part in the individual event in the Open category. In the Open Category there were 42 players participated in the event and the Maltese player Hansel Mallia was one of them.

In the preliminary round there were four groupings of 8 and two groups of five players competed for this sport event. Mallia rose in a group with Tonietti of Atleticovibo PRESTIA and CT Calabro of Barcelona, and he managed to win both of his matches by score of 3-1 and 8-0 respectively. After this phase of qualification, Mallia met Cesare Natoli Messina SC where after a much combat game, Mallia passed to the semifinals with a score of 3-2.

Mallia found a young opponent but of a great talent and captain CTB Mortellito, Salvo Mandanici, where after the first half Mallia found itself from below, in the second half he managed to turn the score 2-1 in favor in order to passed to the final against Ivano Russo.

In the final, Mallia opened a comfortable 2-0 advantage in the first six minutes of the game, to having a series of actions that may have increased the advantage, closed the first half 2-0. With the start of the second half, Russo was dangerous intervals and even managed to get the score of 2-2. But in the last two minutes of the game, Mallia scored what was to be the goal of victory thus achieved the second honor Sicily in the last six years.
