The second edition of the MTBA’s Spring Tournament is to be held at the Eden SuperBowl in St. Julian’s this week, commencing on Sunday morning with the qualification stage (Round 1), and then continuing on Tuesday morning with the final stages. Last year’s inaugural edition of this brand new event in the MTBA calendar proved highly successful, attracting 38 competitors in the male and female categories, and this year’s participation levels look set to easily top the 40 mark.

The Spring Tournament is played on a handicap basis – each bowler being given extra pins in each game according to their sporting ability, to ensure a more level playing field and so give everyone a chance to excel. Sunday’s qualifying round will be played over six game in two consecutive squads for total pinfall including any handicap, and the top eight male and six female qualifiers will then advance to the final stages on Tuesday morning.

The Finals will be played as a Round-Robin, wherein each match will be a one-game face off against all other competitors in sequence, and apart from the total game score, a system of bonus points will also be adopted for wins (20 pin bonus) and draws (10 pin bonus). This popular scoring system always makes for an exciting finale to such events, and the top bowlers from each division will be declared the 2015 Spring Champions.

The Spring Tournament is being supported by for the second time, and the top placed bowlers will be rewarded with an attractive cash prize fund. Entry to the Eden SuperBowl is free, and the public are encouraged to attend and watch the tournament action.
