It will definitely remain a day to remember for the Neptunes Emirates left-hander Michele Stellini who steered his club to the 21st Knock-out victory in the club’s history. The 28 year-old scored no less than 6 goals, half of his teams total, during yesterday’s final against Sliema Mc Donalds that ended 12-8 in favour of the Balluta side.

Sliema took the upper hand in the first session with Salomon and Soler mastering the Blues’ offence, to lead 4-3 after the first buzzer went off. Neptunes stalwarth Steve Camilleri had already committed 2 fouls and Markoch had to change things around, giving him less playing time in the second session to save him for later on in the match.

In the second session Stellini took over, netting one goal after another to turn the tables on Sliema, galvanising his team mates in the process. Serb Alexandar Ciric and Jordan Camilleri played a solid game in defence, as the former guided his team from the back to 1-4 and 1-3 victories in the second and third session. Of the seven goals scored by Neptunes in these 2 sessions, 6 of them were Stellini’s, as Sliema’s sharp shooters repeatedly could not find the back of the net.

By the time the fourth session began, the Balluta side were 10-6 up and only a very strong reaction could have brought Sliema back in contention. Salomon immediately brought the advantage down to 3 goals, but Neptunes held strong, tieing the last session 2-2 to lift their first trophy of the season, after Sliema had won the Winter League and President’s Cup earlier on.
