Stefan Sultana and his cheesy Gozitan decision

Last week I read with interest the news on the local newspaper l-Orizzont that Stefan Sultana a former International Malta player has temporarily suspended his retirement from the local football game. His decision is due to the fact that he will be playing with the Melita 1st Division GFA side Xewkija Tigers.

This news was perceived by many local fans as a surprise moreover after the big farewell that was organised last October to mark his official retirement from local football. Sultana who has scored 197 goals in the Premier League with various Clubs, has opted to join Xewkija Tigers to feature for their last 6 games of the season.

I personally do not perceive Sultana’s decision as a positive one due to the fact that he will not end his career on a high as he had originally planned. For correctness sake I respect Gozitan football and I have personally helped the GFA in various ways to promote their Leagues but still cannot understand the reason behind Sultana’s decision. I highly doubt it that Stefan’s decision was related to remuneration. I would rather love to hear that his decision to return to the competitive 11 a-side game was related purely to the fact that he was missing this game.

Sultana who is currently also the official Team Manager of Hamrun Spartans has also the responsibility to oversee the progress of the youth players in the Hamrun Nursery. The ex Malta national team player is currently playing Futsal with Hamrun Spartans in 4th Division of the MFA National Futsal Championship. The incredible number of goals being scored by Sultana who is playing again along with his brother Konrad might have been the real reason  to suspend his retirement and opt for this strange, awkward, unbelievable and  cheesy Gozitan decision to play with Xewkija Tigers.
