Spiteri in top form to win Time Trial Series

Spiteri in top form to win first edition of the 2015 Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Individual Time Trial Series 

The Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Individual Time Trial Series kicked off on Sunday 5th July with the first of the Series’ three races held in Zurrieq. The route was a new location for the cycling circuit and generated a lot of interest within the community.

 Attracting a serious number of athletes these Series are popular and highly contested events, with the likes of Wayne Spiteri, Maurice Formosa, Etienne Bonello,  Steve Sciberras, Marie Claire Aquilina, Michelle Vella Wood and Margaret Seguna battling for podium places.

 In the males’ category Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Wayne Spiteri, winner of the 2014 Series, showed his strength in this particular discipline to cruise into a comfortable win on the 21km course in thirty minutes and nine seconds.  Team Greens Etienne Bonello clocked in thirty one minutes twenty nine seconds closely followed by Mosta Cycling Club’s Johan Galea in thirty one minutes forty five seconds.

 The female category promised to be hotly contested affair but it was Team Greens Marie Claire Aquilina, a strong presence in the female scene who clocked the best time to  win her category in thirty three minutes and fifty six seconds. Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Michelle Vella Wood came in second in thirty five minutes and one second. Third placed was new girl on the scene The Cyclist’s Stephanie Alden who has been giving strong and consistent performances in the cycling circuit this year winning several podium places in the process. Alden closed in at thirty six minutes eighteen seconds.

The Race also welcomed a number of junior cyclists, aged between seven to fourteen years of age. These cyclists took part in a Mass Start race which saw them start the course together.

The Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club Individual Time Trial Series takes place over a series of three races and whilst last year’s edition was held in the Zebbug By Pass, this year the Club took the decision to host the race in three different locations making it more interesting and challenging for the athletes taking part.

 The next race of the Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Sports Club Individual Time Trial Series will take place on Sunday 26th July in Mdina Road Zebbug, next to St. Dorothy’s School. The final race of the series will be held on the 6th September and will take place on the Mtarfa By Pass. All races start at 7:45am and registrations take place an hour before the first start.

Spiteri jirbaħ l-ewwel edizzjoni tal- 2015 Birkirkara San Ġużepp Sports Club Individual Time Trial Series

 

Il-Birkirkara Saint Joseph Sports Club Individual TimeTrial Series bdiet nhar il-Ħadd 5 ta ‘Lulju, fejn saret l-ewwel mit-tlett tlielaq tas-serje fiż-Żurrieq. Ir-rotta ta din l-ewwel tellieqa saret f’post ġdid fiċ-ċirkwit  taċ- ċikliżmu u ġġenerat ħafna interess fil-istess komunità.Dawn is-serje ta tlielaq jattiraw numru serju ta ‘ atleti u huma avvenimenti popolari u ħafna kkontestati. Atleti bhal Wayne Spiteri,  Maurice Formosa,  Etienne Bonello, Steve Sciberras, Marie Claire Aquilina , Michelle Vella Wood u Margaret Seguna huma ftit mill-ismijiet li jidhru f’dawn it-tlielaq fejn il-battallja ghal-podju tkun miggielda sew. Fil-kategorija tal-irġiel, Wayne Spiteri (Birkirkara St. Joseph)  rebbieħ tal-istess Serje tal-2014, wera is-sahha tiegħu f’din id-dixxiplina partikolari fejn hu rebah il-korsa ta’ 21km f’ wiehed u tletin minuta u disa ‘ sekondi. L-atleta veteran tat-Team Greens Etienne Bonello dahal fit-tieni post f’wieħed tletin minuta disgħa u għoxrin sekonda segwiti minn Johan Galea (Mosta Cycling Club) li dahal f’wieħed u tletin minuta hamsa u erbgħin sekonda .

Il-kategorija femminili wiegħdet li tkun tellieqa ikkontestata bil-qawwi, imma kienet l-atleta tat-Team Greens Marie Claire Aquilina, preżenza dominanti fix-xena femminili,  li registrat l-aħjar ħin biex tirbaħ kategorija tagħha fi tlieta tletin minuta sitta u hamsin sekonda . Michelle Vella Wood (Birkirkara Saint Joseph) daħlet fit-tieni post f’ ħamsa tletin minuta u sekonda. Fit-tielet post rajna lil Stephanie Alden (The Cyclist) li hija wicc gdid fix-xena tac-ciklizmu Malti u li sa issa tat wirjiet f’sahhithom u konsistenti matul din is-sena.

It-tellieqa laqghet wkoll għadd ta’ ċiklisti zghar ta etajiet bejn 7-14 -il sena. Dawn ċiklisti ħadu sehem f’tellieqa Mass Start, ta distanza bejn tlieta u sitt kilometri u li rawhom jibdew il- korsa flimkien.

Il-Birkirkara Saint Joseph Sports Club Individual TimeTrial Series ser tikkonsisti fi tliet tiġrijiet u filwaqt edizzjoni tas-sena loħra saret  kollha fil- Żebbuġ By Pass,  din is-sena l-klabb ħa d-deċiżjoni li jospita it-tlielaq fi tliet postijiet differenti hekk sabiex jagħmilha aktar interessanti u ta ‘sfida għall- atleti li jieħdu sehem .

It-tellieqa li jmiss ser isseħħ il-Ħadd 26 ta’ Lulju fl-Imdina Road Żebbuġ , ħdejn Iskola St. Dorothy’s waqt it-tellieqa finali se ssir nhar is-6 Settembru fuq il- Imtarfa By Pass . It-tlielaq kollha jibdew fis 07:45 u reġistrazzjonijiet jintlaqaq sa siegħa qabel il-bidu ta kill tellieqa.
