DAY Two at the 2011 European Snooker Championships was all about the host Nation Malta, showing their quality as their top three sides played well and kept up the pressure in the Men’s Senior Team event, but not to be outdone the Malta Masters teams are firing on all cylinders too.

Malta (1) made it three out of three with a very convincing 10 – 3 win over a very difficult Cyprus side, where the Malta (2) side had a stunning 10- 8 win over the France team and not to be undone Malta (3) at 11.40pm last night were pushing for victory over Belgium when they needed just one frame for victory leading 9 – 8.

The Republic of Ireland (1) side had a very tough encounter with Scotland and with both sides undefeated something had to give and Robert Murphy was left needing just one frame to secure victory, standing in his way was young Scott Donaldson. Donaldson won his frames to level and the match went down to a deciding frame between Scotland’s Bobby Cruikshanks and Rodney Goggins of Ireland and the Scot ran out the winner in the decider keeping Scotland on course to top their group.

Ireland made up for the loss instantly with a 10 – 5  in over Israel.

Wales too have shown some real quality with two day one wins under their belt and a very impressive 10 – 1 win over the Republic of Ireland (2) side today to remain undefeated and it should be some match When the men from Wales meet up with Malta (1) featuring Tony Drago, Alex Borg and Duncan Bezzina.

The Ladies event so far has been a German cleanout as Deutschland who have beaten everyone out of sight and look firm favorite’s to win the event, but don’t write of the Russians who are just two points in arrears after a pretty impressive two days.

Tomorrow see’s the arrival of the ‘Young Guns’ to Malta for the very first European Under 21 Snooker Championships which starts on Saturday with a place on the ‘Main Pro-Tour’ for the winner.
