Birkirkara got the best possible start to the new season when they beat Sliema Wanderers 4-1 this evening. It was a bittersweet victory for the stripes. Goalkeeper Lovizon fractured his hand after a collision with Miguel Ciantar. Sliema opened the score with a powerful strike from Jackson Lima. Birkirkara managed to change the game with  three goals in the first half, thanks to a brace from Michael Galea and debutant Terence Vella. In the second half Sliema played the last few minutes with ten men  after John Mintoff was sent off for a professional foul. There was still time for Emiliano Lattes to score the fourth goal for a deserved win
