Sliema to seek MFA’s assistance to replace turf and lights at Tigne

During the press conference Club President Mr Steve Abela stated that the complex was handed to Sliema Wanderers on the 20th August 2010, which includes conference rooms indoor pitches and also a full size pitch with artificial turf. Mr Abela stated that the turf will have to be changed since it was not up to standard according to FIFA standards, he also stated that unfortunately not even the floodlights system was up to standered. Mr Abela continued his speech stating that Sliema Wanderers Commitee was having discussions with the MFA commitee as the club will be preparing to replace the artifical turf and floodlights.

It was also stated that the government had confirmed the payments due by the Land registry Department over a clause in the contract. President Abela commented that Sliema Wanderers had appointed Mr Alex Muscat as a full time administrator at the complex. It was revealed also that Mr John Micallef Moreno will be assisting the Club in trying to obtain funds from the EU as the club wants to market the said complex for sports tourism.

Thanks to the Sliema Supporters branch the club now had a new and fresh website, designed by Echo Designs. The 2011 calander rwas also lauched at the press conference.The calander was produced by Claudia Calleja and Sue Rossi from the Modelle International company. Mr Bernard Polidano was in charge of all the photos. Calenders will be sold for €10 from the Sliema House Club and by the Supporters club at the local stadia. 

Meanwhile Coach Mark Marlow who also made an intervention in this press conference admitted that he was not happy with the position of the team as things stand today in the league table but he said that the club needs to build on the young players and hoped all the squad will be available very soon.

Steve Abela said that some additional foreign players will be on trial with the team and these could replace the ones in the current squad. He also stated that whilst Viktor Szenpeteri had a contract until end of season, all local players could also be engaged during the January transfer window.
