Sliema in danger zone

The final score does not reflect the true difference between the two teams as Hamrun were the much better outfit during the game as they created much more occasions than Sliema and had they taken all the chances they created the final score line would have been different.
 
 Hamrun are now fourth from bottom on 14 points from 12 games while Sliema are third from bottom on 12 points also from 12 games.
 
The Spartans went straight on the offensive and mounted three actions in a row. Jacob Rakban served Ryan Spiteri on the left flank and sliema keeper Michael Cluett saved his effort from outside the area.  Spiteri then served Gary Desira in the area and a defender cleared the danger by clearing the ball to a throw-in and and Desira was fouled on the left edge of the area and Cluett saved the free kick shot by Ayrton Micallef.
 
The next two actions were created by Sliema. Glenn Chircop served Dale Micallef in the area but he failed to make contact with the ball and Micallef served Paolo Dondolo in the area
and Hamrun keeper Isaac Zammit Cordina foiled him with a timely sortie, from the same action, Zammit Cordina served Spiteri with a long drop kick who then served Micallef in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner.
 
Hamrun kept pressing: Sinmorrion Cilia served Micallef in the area and Cluett came out of his charge to kick the ball up field and the same player served Spiteri on the left flank, who after out-speeding a defender Cluett denied with a diving save to a corner.  
 
Sliema created the last action before the break when Glenn chircop, after beating two opponents on the right flank he crossed the ball in the area to Gabriel Aquilina and Zammit Cordina foiled him with a timely sortie.
 
The first two actions after restart were created by Hamrun. After a well-taken flag kick from the left flank by Luke Grech,Micallef headed slightly over the bar and Spiteri served Desira in the area and he missed the upright from his shot.
 
In a Sliema attack, Aquilina served Dandolo in the area but the Hamrun keeper foiled him with a perfect timely sortie.
 
Hamrun reacted and mounted two actions. Spiteri served Desira on the right flank who after entering the area drove over the bar and after a run down the left flank by Micallef he crossed the ball in the area to Cilia who missed the upright.
 
In Sliema’s next attack in the 68th minute they nearly opened the score when Dandolo pounced on a defensive indecision and after entering the area Zammit Cordina saved his close-range shot and a minute later Justin Pisani was fouled outside the area and from the free kick by the same player Dandolo headed out from inside the area.
 
In the 71st minute Hamrun opened the score after a prolonged action. Spiteri out-sped two opponents on the right flank and Cluett turned the ball to a corner from his cross-shot. The flag kick was taken by Grech and Rakban scored with a header from inside the area.
 
Sliema tried to save the game as they mounted two attacks before the final whistle. Dandolo served Pisani with a cross from the left and Zammit Cordina saved his effort from inside the area and after Dandolo was fouled on the left edge of the area, from the free kick by Pisani substitute Aaron Chircop came close the equaliser as he headed slightly over the bar.
