In a play off to determine the fourt semi finalists Sliema Hotsticks got the better of White Hart by the odd goal in three.

From the first whistle White Hart went out on attack and pressed for an early lead, in fact by the 6th minute they had two scoring chances which were both fluffed by their forwards. Sliema by now were settling and on the 8th Dylan Lentini for Sliema missed a golden scoring chance by hitting wide from an ideal position.

Sliema kept the upper hand till the 16th when in a White Hart counter attack a David Agius hard hit inside the Sliema D was met by Mathew Camilleri who deflected the ball past Sliema’s Goalkeeper Cole to put his side one up. A minute later White Hart almost added a second hadn’t a scorcher by Tony Azzopardi hit the upright. For the rest of the half play was rather balanced with White Hart slightly superior.

In the second half Sliema opened well and by the 41st min. they drew level through Dylan Lentini who flicked the ball into the corner after receiving a pass from Lukas Phlaen. Sliema kept up the pressure, and on the 45th an Andrei Imbroll hit just missed the posts. Three minutes later White Hart won a short corner from which David Agius watched his deflection going off target with the goal completely at his mercy. For this miss White Hart paid dearly. On the 52nd Lukas Phlaen hit first time a devious cross from the right which beat Vassallo Agius all ends up. White Hart reaction was immediate and a high flick at goal by Luke Borg Costanzi from a short corner missed the bar by inches. A minute later Elton Farrugia in Sliema’s goal did well to palm away a hit from top of the d by Borg Costanzi.

Sliema were now relying completely on counter attacks and from one of these they almost added a third had it not been for a timely intervention by Simon Agius who cleared off the goal line with Vassallo Agius caught out of position. In the last few three minutes of the game White Hart forced no less than four short corners however they found a resilient Sliema defence.

Next Sunday Sliema will meet Qormi and Floriana Y.S. play Rabat Depiro in the semis.
