Sliema Football Nursery at the new premises in Tigne

Thursday, November 4, 2010, 11:09

As the first major event at its new premises, the Sliema Nursery held an innovative activity as it combined a football tournament with the fun element associated with Halloween.
The football tournament was organised for the younger age groups namely those of the Under 8, 9, 10 and 11 years and to avoid as much as possible pressure on these young players no official scores or placing were kept.
To add to the element of fun, a Halloween hall was set up were the participants could enjoy themselves having their face painted and playing other fun games between the football matches. The popular singer Joe Mallia kept the parents entertained with his inimitable style of performing well known songs and melodies.
Most of the players also brought with them drawings with the themes of Halloween and football and these were all exhibited in the hall for all to admire the effort done.
Besides Sliema, the football Nurseries of B’kara, San Gwann, Melita, Luqa S.A, Hamrun, Hibernians, Floriana, Luxol and Pieta participated and cooperated fully to make this day an enjoyable event for all the young players and their parents.

Well Done to all who organised this Fun Day for so many youngsters coming from diiferent local clubs. A big thank you also goes to all those youths, clubs & parents who participated .

  2. STEVE ABELA President Sliema W says:

Mr Edmond Farrugia, I suggest that you come to the Tigne Sports Complex and meet me there if you like to ask any questions I will be more than happy answering you. However once you placed your question on this blog I would like to inform you that the complex was specifically allocated to SLIEMA W which incorporates the first youth nursery in Malta. This was done by a contract signed by SLIEMA W and the Govt authorities over ten years ago . As regards to AST, as I am informed they were allocated other premises opposite the complex but I am not informed if or when this association will occupy these premises. I guess you are upset that your basketball club has problems to find adequate space to train……..SLIEMA W know the feeling as we were kept out of SLIEMA for over ten years.

  3. Edmund Farrugia says:

Well I would like to know from the Sliema President what happend to the concept that Tigne would house, not only football or futsal, but other sporting entities. We need to keep in mind that before Midi took over, various other sport entities had premises in Tigne. We all sitll remember that at one time, there was AST (Association Sports Tine…but in Maltese).
I am sure that the govenment or Midi or KMS that invested in the indoor court had various other sport entities in mind and not just football!!!!!
