Sliema kicked off their series of friendlies on Wednesday evening when they were hosted by Mosta in the Charles Abela Stadium. Wednesday’s game was also the first one in a series for the Mosta side led by Steve Damato.

Sliema won the match 2-0 with a goal scored in each half. Clive Mizzi’s side won this first friendly despite having to play almost all the second half with 10 men after one of their foreign players was sent off by referee Clayton Pisani.

New recruits Justin Haber and Daniel Bogdanovic were making their debut with the Mosta shirt with the latter failing to impress. Haber had a good debut guarding the Mosta area before he was substituted on the 60 minute mark to make space for his reserve keeper.

Both sides had an array of foreign players on trial.

Sliema’s Roderick Bajada who was out on loan from Sliema to Valletta in the latter part of last season was seen running along the pitch. He was not part of the Sliema sqaud. On the other side fireworks started immediately inside the Mosta dressing room before the game as Gilbert Martin refused to wear the Mosta kit. He was originally in the 18 man squad. Rumours have it that he was upset because Bogdanovic had been given the number 10 jersey. Efforts to try an confirm this issue were unsuccessful.
