The Blues beat San Giljan twice, 11-10 and 13-6 over the weekend, while Neptunes swept aside the Sirens challenge to the tune of 20-7 and 15-8. Sergio Afric’s men found the going tough in the first game as San Giljan came out with all guns blazing in a game that was marred by a large number of fouls. San Giljan missed a number of easy chances which cost them the game, while Sliema performed better as they welcomed back Paul Privitera and Jerome Gabarretta who were unavailable throughout most of the Summer league. In the second game of this best out of three semifinal, it was a different story from the second half onwards. With San Giljan’s Trajkovic picking up his third foul before halftime, San Giljan found the going tough, succumbing to a 13-6 final scoreline that will now see them fighting it out for third place against Sirens.

On their part, Neptunes found little opposition from Sirens on Friday evening, as the current champions let their goal machine loose and the result was a landslide 20-7 victory. On Saturday, Neptunes played below par, only managing to pull away from their opponents in the last session. The Reds looked overconfident and also frustrated at times, with the promising Sirens goalkeeper Grixti saving a Tamas Molnar penalty. In the end, the unbeaten Neptunes got the win that booked their place in the finals. Game 1 of these finals is being played on Friday at 6:30pm.

In the second division playoff final, Valletta and Marsascala are tied at one game apiece, with the title being decided on Friday at 5:15pm.

  1. no to violence says:

I would like to deplore the violent scenes that took place in the stands at the end of the Valletta v Marsascala game.

On another note I think that the playoffs were a hopeless idea, with a team such as Sliema only showing their full potential now after a season of playing relaxed waterpolo. Neptunes will risk losing the league even though they were by far superior in all departments. ASA take note.
