SILVER MEDAL FOR BADMINTON TEAM ON LAST DAY AT LA BAULE

The MESA Badminton team, made up of Edmond Abela, Jacqueline Degiovanni, Joanne Cassar, Stephen Ferrante, Aldo Polidano, Sandra Spiteri and Kenneth Vella, won a silver medal on the last day of the World Company Sport Games in La Baule, France, thus bringing the total number of medals won by the MESA contingent to twelve during these Games.

The Maltese team beat Veolia of France 3-1 in the semi-final but lost by the same score against Lufthansa Technik of Hamburg, Germany in the final.

On the last day of the Games, the men’s Beach Volley team made up of Angelo Bonello and David Mario Caruana finished in sixth place in the Seniors Category, while the ladies team made up of Maria Caruana Demicoli and Isabel Cutajar placed fifth in the Open Category.

On the final day of the Bowling Tournament, the MIA team finished in third place and the BOV team in seventh place, but they were both eliminated in the final knock-out tournament.

The twelve medals won by the MESA contingent resulted as follows:

Silver

Peter Azzopardi – 5,000 metres (Category D)

David Cassar – 5,000 metres (Category C)

Marilyn Grech – 200 metres

Badminton Team – Senior Teams Doubles

Bronze

Marilyn Grech – 100 metres

Adrian Mifsud – 5,000 metres (Category C)

Mark Mifsud – 400 metres and 800 metres (2 medals)

Matthew Scicluna – 5,000 metres (Category B)

Joseph Mallia – Darts Men Individual
