Silva double lifts Sliema to win – Qormi registered the first league win

Final Score: Sliema W. 3-0 Mqabba

Brazilian Jorge Santos Silva scored in each half to hand Sliema Wanderers the first win of the season. The Blues now have four points from two games as they joined Hibernians in fourth place. It was the second successful defeat for Mqabba who now lie at the bottom part of table.

Sliema coach Danilo Doncic made two changes from last week’s 3-3 draw against Hibernians as Beppe Muscat and Cleaven Frendo started instead Julian Briffa and the suspendend Mark Scerri.

Mqabba coach Clive Mizzi also made two changes as left back Clayton Micallef and debutant Bojan Marnic were preferred to Psaila and Paris.

Final score Qormi 3-0 Balzan Youths

Captain Joseph Farrugia scored a two second half goals in the 3-0 win against Balzan Youths. It was the first league win of the season for the Yellows and Blacks. Balzan Youths suffered the second successful defeat.

Qormi coach Stephen Azzopardi formerly a Balzan mentor gave the debut to Kenneth Scicluna as he replaced Stephen Wellman in the heart of the defence

Balzan Youths coach Ivan Zammit also gave the debut to Miguel Ciantar as he replaced Silvan Ciscaldi.

In the first half Qormi was always the better side but end in a dull half. Four minutes in the second half thirty year old Joseph Farrugia open the score thanks to a perfect free kick as he no chance to helpless Matthew Camilleri. Brazilian Pedro Calcado was sent off after he collected the second yellow card.

On the ninth minute Qormi seals the issue Jorge Pereira Da Silva powerful shot hit the upright post before end in the net.

In the added time their where also time for another goal as captain Joseph Farrugia rising shot beaten Matthew Camilleri after he was served by Joseph Chetcuti.
