Siggiewi Summer Sports Night‏

This Friday 20th July from 6.30pm onwards the Siġġiewi Summer Sports Night is going to be held at theSt. Nicholas Square. The Siġġiewi Summer Sports Night is an activity suitable for all the family and will involve a number of sport disciplines for various ages, namely basketball, football, athletics, zumba, pilates, boxing, mini-golf, gymnastics and chess.


Some 300 applications have been received by the Siggiewi Local Council and a person who has not registered may still participate in the children’s fun run (500m) or the adults’ fun run (2.2km).

Throughout the night, various Siġġiewi individuals that practice a sport will be interviewed, including the Maltese shooter champion Nathan Lee Xuereb. The Health Promotion Unit will provide information on keeping a balanced diet and living a healthy lifestyle. Singers Thea Garret and Janvil will perform throughout the night.


The Siġġiewi Summer Sports Night will start at 6.30pm with a Pilates session with the participation of a number of residents from the Dar tal-Providenza. The evening will come to an end with a Zumba session for all participants, children and adults respectively.

Traditional Maltese games will be organised namely the potato race and the water and bucket race, together with a tug of war competition with the participation of representatives from Siġġiewi organisations. Football and basketball games will be organised for different age groups with the assistance of the Siġġiewi football and basketball clubs. Boxing exhibitions will be organised by the Malta Boxing Federation with the participation of four local clubs.

This event is being organised by the Sports Committee of the Siġġiewi Local Council headed by the Deputy Mayor Ryan Callus, in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth and Sports and the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isports. Parliamentary Secretary Clyde Puli will be presenting medals to participants that have subscribed to the event. The organisers encourage the general public to attend and participate.
