The MESA contingent taking part on the first day of the World Company Sport Games in La Baule, France won seven medals in Athletics – one gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

Shot putter Lawrence Ransley dominated the event in his category to win gold with a throw of 14.10 metres.

David Cassar and Peter Azzopardi won silver in the 5,000 metres. Cassar finished second in Category C (40-49 years) and Azzopardi did likewise in Category D (50-59 years).

The four bronze medals were won by Marilyn Grech in Category A (18-29 years) of the 100 metres, Mark Mifsud in Category A as well in the 800 metres, Matthew Sultana in Category B (30-39 years) of the 5,000 metres and Adrian Mifsud in Category C of the 5,000 metres.

Men’s Beach Volley duo Angelo Bonello and David Mario Caruana scored four wins out of four games while the female team made up of Maria Caruana Demicoli and Isabel Cutajar scored two wins out of three games.

The Baminton team taking part in the Senior Mixed tournament lost 3-1 to German opponents but scored a 4-0 win against French opposition.

In Bowling, the MIA teams finished in sixth place and the BOV team in 12th place out of 32 teams. The tournament resumes today with the top 16 teams making it to the second phase.

Good results were also obtained by Joseph Mallia in the Darts team where he beat Frenchman Jean Claude Samoyeau and German Anthony Henton by an identical 3-0 score.
