Second selection – Air-Rifle & Air-Pistol Shooting competition

Last Saturday, The Malta Air-Rifle & Pistol Shooting Club under the auspices of the Malta Shooting Sport Federation organized the second in a series of GSSE selection shoots in both Air-Rifle and Air-Pistol disciplines at the indoor airgun ranges in Bidnija.

The protagonist of the day was none other than Eleanor Bezzina who achieved an unbeatable score of 371/400 (Ladies event) (MQS) and a 560/600 (Overall mixed event) to win the merited gold medal. Ray Cacciattolo took the Silver medal with his score of 544/600, whilst bronze went to newcomer Emmanuel Grech who achieved his first podium place by scoring 507/600. Martin Grech finished in 4th place with his score of 502 and Josette Calleja ended in 5th place with a 498 score (331/400 -Ladies Event).

The Air-Rifle event was also well participated and William Vella showed his unbeatable consistency by winning the event with an MQS score of 574/600 points. Lawrence Darmanin followed in 2nd place with a 548/600 and Romeo Zuber also obtained his first podium placing by winning a merited bronze medal with a personal best score of 519/600. Charlo Chircop having returned to air-rifle shooting after a long absence, finished in 4th place scoring a 510/600 whilst Michael Xuereb took 5th place with a score of 496/600 points.

All shooters then participated in the final where another 10 shots were fired. The scores of the final were later added to those of the qualification round but however this time, the final classification remained the same.

At the end of the competitions, the MOC Sports Director – Mr Mark Cutajar, who was observing the events, kindly accepted to donate the medals to the winners of the various shooting events. The competitions were judged by Mr Gino Galea and assisted by Mr John Galea.
