Following last year’s success of the 1st Bike Ride in aid of l-Istrina, the Air Malta Sports & Social Committee together with SITA (Malta office) once again reunited to organise this cycling event.  The aim of the organising team was to double last year’s participation and target was hit bullseye!

This year’s edition of The Bike Ride in aid of l-Istrina was held on Sunday, 30th October 2011 and 216 cyclists participated.  For the first time, cyclists were welcomed at San Anton Palace by H.E. Dr. George

Abela, President of Malta, who congradulated all participants on taking part in this event as part of Gurnata Sports mill-Qalb activities!!!!

The bike ride started at around 0845hrs and left for Mosta amid threats of pending rain and showers.  Cyclists then proceeded to Naxxar and Ta’ Qali where a pit-stop for water was greatly appreciated. The second part of the ride took the cyclists to Mtarfa, Mdina, Rabat, Attard, Balzan and then back again to San Anton Gardens. Fruit, energy drinks and a goodie bag were distributed to all participants together with a commemorative certificate!

The participants were supported by the Mosta Cycling Club support cars, St. John Ambulance and the local police force throughout the ride.

A staggering sum of EUR2865 was collected at this event, thanks to the participants donations and the support of a number of local organizations namely: Mosta Cycling Club, Magri Cycles Shop Mosta, Mekkanika, Computer Solutions Ltd. (CSL), Clear Print Malta Ltd, AF Sign Studios, Attard Local Council, Scotts SuperMarkets, Frott Artna, www.createjc.com, Gatorade and Sierra Book Distributors.

The question now is …. When will next year’s edition of The  Bike in aid of L-Istrina 2012 be held? And where? Till then …… keep on pedaling!!!!! Cycle for fitness, and cycle for fun!
