Just four weeks after the U*Bet FA Trophy final, won by Floriana, which brought to an end to the 2010/11 season, the new campaign kicks-off today with the first match of the Euro Challenge Cup. A match which pits against each other the BOV Premier League champions Valletta and runners up Floriana.

The Euro Challenge Cup – the pre-season tournament meant to give local clubs taking part in UEFA competitions the opportunity to prepare better for their European commitments – will be played on a triangular basis with last season’s third place dBirkirkara also in action next Monday against today’s losers.

Valletta, under the guidance of Jesmond Zerafa, have secured the services of Zongo while William Barbosa Da Silva currently on trial. Floriana, on the other hand, are expected to have new foreigners namely Italian striker Salvatore Amirante and French winger L’Iman Seydi who both just arrived in the midweek, while defender John Hardiker has been training with his new teamates for the past two weeks.

Captain Gilbert Agius, defender Jonathan Caruana and Brazilian Ramon are ruled out.

Floriana coach Michael Woods cannot make use of Thomas Paris, Christian Cassar, Nigerian striker Daniel Nwoke and Pablo Doffo
