Maltese waterpolo was back in the news this week as two of our countrymen were plying their trade overseas.

Young goalkeeper Ryan Sciortino made his full debut with Hungarian side Szentes against one of Hungary’s top sides, Szolnok. Sciortino had a good performance although he suffered 11 goals and was substituted in the last two sessions by first goalie Tamas Horvath who saw 9 goals going past him.

In Italy, Stevie Camilleri continued his impressive run, when he scored five goals in Bogliasco’s 13-12 away victory against Ellevi Nervi. Camilleri is now Bogliasco’s top scorer with 26 goals, and lies 9th overall in the Italian Serie A top scorers table.

With this win, Bogliasco are 5th in the Serie A standings as they managed to claw their way into this game after being stunned in the first session that Nervi won 3-0. But once Bogliasco levelled matters they went ahead in the second quarter and with the score reading 4-3, Camilleri’s penalty was saved by Nervi keeper Merill Moses.

The third quarter was a very balanced affair with both sides responding to each other’s goals, and in the fourth quarter Bogliasco took the decisive lead building a four goal advantage, with Heiko Nossek, who last year played for San Giljan, scoring the decisive 13th goal for Bogliasco.
