Schools Leagues attract upcoming volleyball players

The Malta Volleyball Association, together with the Sport Promotion Unit of the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport, has organised a number of Schools Leagues, in the recent months, to promote the game of volleyball in schools, and at the same time attract new players to join the local clubs and take part in the local competitions on a more regular basis. All secondary schools, State, Church or Independent were invited to take part in these Schools Leagues.

The Cottonera Sports Complex lent itself wonderfully to these competitions, with a number of courts set up at the same time, with the schools taking part playing on a regular basis against all the other schools. Some schools also opted to bring a number of supporters for these Schools Leagues, thus making the atmosphere all the more exciting.

The competitions themselves were organised by Charles Gauci, Youth Development Officer with the M.V.A., together with Jonathan Attard, representing the S.P.U. All matches were officiated by local volleyball coaches and players, together with teachers pertaining to the schools taking part. Another tournament for Forms 1 and 2 is earmarked for Thursday 28th April, 2010.
