Sara Xuereb won the silver medal, improving on her previous bronze, at the EYC currently being held in Vienna. After winning her squad with a brilliant 208 average, she went on to place 3rd overall amongst 65 players.

In the semi final she disposed of  German bowler Nele Niehusenand with ease, and went on to face the overall leader, Victoria Kashirskaya from Russia, in a pulsating neck and neck game, which was finally decided in the last frame where Xuereb unfortunately left a split that allowed the Russian bowler to win.

Xuereb followed up on the silver medal win in the singles with a bronze in the Masters.

After qualifying in 14th place out of 65 bowlers, she first defeated Briton Lucy Williams  then went on to reach the quarter finals by repeating the 2-0 victory against  Finn Peppi Konsteri .

In the quarter finals, after a shaky start in game 1, Xuereb beat Swede Nora Johansson in the second and third game, both of which were nail biting till the end.

The semi final between Xuereb and the other Swede, Hanna Engberg again saw the score at 1-1 after the 2 games. This time Sara was unable to overcome her opponent, who powered through at the end to beat her 224-194.

The final was won by England’s Isabel Allen.  Sara comes back home with 2 medals in the 2 events she could compete in this year’s event, continuing to build on her international successes, including  at last month’s Mediterranean Bowling Championships.
