Xuereb, who only started bowling around 1 ½ years ago beat leader Liliana Spiteri in the final 176-170 and 174-164.  Spiteri, who dominated the qualifiers, also ended up as comfortable leader after the round robin winning 4 out of her 5 games.

Xuereb ended 3rd in the round robin first beat Marthese Cossai and then needed to beat Spiteri twice to emerge as winner. 4th place went to Kathryn Fenech, followed by Natasha Bianchi and Rachel Chircop.

The men’s was the usual hard fight.  Melvin Galea finished 1st with a comfortable lead in the qualifiers, but was given a fight by 13 year old Chris Fenech who, after qualifying in 4th place,  shot up through the round robin gaining 4 wins with a good 185 average to end up in 2nd place ahead of best friend 12 year old Kayden Laganà.

After having lost to Fenech in the last game of the round robin, Lagana’ turned the tables on him in the fight between 3rd and 2nd to set up the final against Galea.  Laganà did not let go and emerged the worthy winner 210-176 and 178 -164. Lagana’ besides being the youngest ever winner of the Gold Cup, has thus won the Gold, Silver and Bronze cup.

4th place went to Mark Serge, followed by Jonathan Sciberras and Nicholas Falzon.
