Before the start of the game San Ġiljan needed to beat their opponents by 3 goals to claim the Winners trophy and it all seemed to be a keen contest.  With Toth and Aquilina sharing 8 goals between them and Spiteri de Barro completing a hat trick, San Ġiljan made sure of the result in the first two sessions ending 5 -1 and 5-0 respectively.  The third session ended 5 – 4 with the final session going the Italian’s way 3 -2.  For Lerici Sport, Bogliolo scored 4 goals.

In the preceeding game, M’Scala coach Farrugia made ample use of his reserves in an easy win over HWPSC.  With a better goal average than Lerici Sport, M’Scala secured the second berth.

At the end of the Tournament, San Ġiljan ASC vice-President Brian Schembri presented all the participating teams with a souvenir trophy.

The tournament was organised with the collaboration of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS) and the St. Julian’s Local Council.

All in all it was a waterpolo festival that saw waterpolo being played in the ‘pitches’ reminiscant of the good old days.  The tournament also exhibited two matches of female waterpolo

between a selection of Maltese players and Italian players from Bogliasco.
