Sliema managed to get out of the Pool today with minimal damage as they managed the full points against San Giljan with a 13-7 win. The Balluta side led by Marco Risso kept up the pace with the Blues for the first two sessions as just before the start of the third period they were only one goal down 4-3.

Sliema won the first session 1-0 with an early goal by Mark Meli. This session saw San Giljan providing some good defending forcing Sliema to shoot from outside the 7 metre area. The second session was very enjoyable with San Giljan going one goal up with goals by Bianci, Aquilina and Toth. Bogdan Rath had momentarily put Sliema 2-1 ahead after Bianchi’s 1-1, but Sliema’s Privitera and Meli ended the session on a positive note for Afric’s side to make the score line 4-3. San Giljan’s keeper Dino Camilleri saved three open chances in this session to keep his side in contention.

The third session was fundamental for Sliema as they took the opportunity to score four consecutive goals without any reply with goals by Kunac (twice), Rath and Privitera for 8-3. San Giljan were losing breath and the lack of options on the bench became evident as the minutes passed on.

The last session was just a formality as Afric put some of his fringe players in the pool. The scorers for Sliema in this session were Meli, Brownrigg, Soler, and Bogdan Rath with two masterpiece goals that are worth watching again and again for weeks. The Balluta side scorers in the last session were Pace, Spiteri Debarro and two goals by German Nossec.

Matthew Zammit of San Giljan who is momentarily suspended for failing a doping test once again watched the game amongst the San Giljan supporters. It is reported that he trained with the team during this week.
