San Giljan Sir Alex got off their campaign to a roaring start when they defeated title contendors Sliema Frank Salt in a nail biting encounter which was decided in the last session. Sliema appeared to be the stronger team initially winning the first two sessions and establishing  two goal margin at the interval but the Saints kept plugging and never gave up ending up worthy winners.

Sliema won the first session 4-3 with Lubrano and Kiss in evidence after Zammit had given San Giljan a 2-0 lead. The same occurred in the second session which Sliema shaded 3-2 setting themselves up with a two goal advantage at the midway point. However San Giljan continued playing well making the most of several man up situations to win the third session 4-3 with Biros and Fava scoring at crucial moments. The final session was a nail biting affair with San Giljan finding the two goals they needed to win the encounter and take the three points.

Marsascala More 14 Ta’ Xbiex Amigos 18

Ta’ Xbiex Amigos showed that they should be  aforce to be reckoned with this season in the First Division where they defeated Marsascala More in a tight encounter although they won three out of the four sessions.

The first one went 3-5 in favour of Ta’ Xbiex with Kayes and Szeles showing their mettle for both teams. The second sessions was  a high scoring affair with both teams scoring regularly largely through the Galea players and Kayes.

The third session saw Marsascala win 2-1 to reduce the deficit to just two for the final session which was another high scoring affair with Peter Markoch in evidence for a final score of 18-14 in Ta’ Xbiex’s favour.

Neptunes Emirates began their Summer Premier League commitments with a rather quirky win over Exiles Ferretti who seemed to come alive in the final two sessions. In fact Neptunes had virtually settled the encounter in the first two sessions which they won 5-1 and 4-0 establishing an eight goal advantage largely through the efforts of Molnar and captain Niki Lanzon who scored regularly.

Exiles managed to put on a much better show in the third session shading it 1-0 while they actually improved their showing in the fourth session winning it 4-2 to establish a rather creditable 6-11 defeat. For the Sliema team the star player was Vojaslov with a brace.

Marsaxlokk ASC 12 Valletta United 16

Valletta United were made to go all the way to gain their first points against Marsaxlokk ASC who put on a great show especially in the second and final sessions. In fact it all seemed one sided when Valletta won the first session 5-1 with Korolija and Filipovic in evidence.

However Marsaxlokk recovered quite well in the second session shading it 4-3 largely with Robert and Paul Kovacs making their mark. The third session again saw Valletta establishing their superiority winning 4-1 with Cordina, Filipovic and Mock scoring regularly. The see saw encounter again swayed in the final session with Marsaxlokk winning 5-4 although Valletta ended relatively easy 16-12 winners.
