San Giljan Giuseppe beat Marco Risso School 8-6 to claim the top spot.  San Giljan fielded a younger squad in view of the opponents and also due to the 1st Division commitment against Sirens.  Notwithstanding, it was a keen and balanced encounter that was enjoyed by a modest crowd of waterpolo enthusiasts and curious onlookers that brought some nostalgia back to the pitch.

In the penultimate game, Valletta Dhalia had the better over their Italian opponents by 14 – 8 and claimed the runners-up place.  Valletta player De Somma also finished as Top Scorer taking his tally to 9 goals.

At the end of the Tournament ASA President Mr. Joe Caruana Curran presented the winners trophy to San Giljan captain Paul Fava.  ASA General Secretary Mr. Martin Borg presented the Top Scorer’s trophy. Dr Daniel Aquilina, President of San Giljan ASC presented trophies to all other participating team captains.

Mr Justin Spiteri on behalf of Bistro 516 presented the sponsorship cheque to San Giljan ASC.

In their closing remarks, the ASA President, Joe Caruana Curran wished San Giljan well and complemented them on their initiative to organise the tournament.  He augured that San Giljan would continue to organise such events that are also important in boosting the image of the sport in Malta.  On his part Dr. Daniel Aquilina thanked all the participants and augured that San Giljan would soon be lifting the more coveted ‘silverware’.

Following the presentations all guests and participants were invited to a reception at the newly embellished premises at San Giljan pitch.

The event has been sponsored by Bistro 516 of Valletta Waterfront and was held in collaboration with the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSports.
