Last season’s second placed Sliema ASC have lately been busy strengthening their side for the 2012 Summer National Waterpolo league. The Ghar Id Dud side announced the signing of Hungarian goalkeeper Istvan Gergely and are in advanced talks with Hungarian Ferenc Salamon.

Sliema ASC opted for the Hungarian goalkeeper Istvan Gergely after already signing Frano Vican who is now being considered by the Croatian Federation for the next summer Olympics.

Gergely 36, is one of the experienced goalkeepers on an international level, having won double Olympic gold medals in 2004 and 2008.

Meanwhile the Sliema committee are targeting Gergely teamate Ferenc Salamon 23, currently both playing for Budapesti Honved SE in the top Hungarian League. Salamon has vast junior championships international experience and is considered one of his club’s mainstays. He is also a fan of Coldplay and Lincoln Park.

On a sour note Sliema suffered a blow for this year’s winter league as former captain Clint Debono will not be part for Sergio Afric side as he‘s playing in Switzerland.

Gozitian side Otters are set to sign 43 year old John Paris from Exiles.
