Rabat Ajax and Melita share the spoils, Hibernians demolish Qormi

Melita forward Luis Hose Armaro Negrin and Lithuanian Nerijus Astrauskas struck twice to earn their sides a 3-3 draw in the clash between the promoted sides.

The two teams went into the weekend with no points after defeats against Qormi and Birkirkara respectively, but talk of the gap between the clubs being closed was well and truly ended in a 3 all draw.

Lithuanian striker Nerijus Astrauskas opened the score as he tapped in a low cross by Ryan Micallef. Minutes later Luke Micallef equalised after a misunderstanding in the Rabat defence. The Magpies again took the lead by Astrauskas as he fired in an empty net after Ryan Micallef’s shot hit the woodwork.

Melita had the chance to level matters but Luis Negrin saw his eleven metre shot saved by Shaun Mintoff.

Rabat Ajax seemed heading towards victory after had the lead for long time during the game. However the game took another twist and in the later part three goal was scored.

Spanish striker Negrin struck twice in 8 minutes to put the Amateurs up fron for the first time in the game. Seconds before end of the game Spansidh Manuel Fuster struker for the Magpies for a deserved draw.

Rabat Ajax coach Silvio Vella made two changes as Kris Muscat and Clive Brincat was given the nod ahead German Heiner Backhaus and Geatano Gesualdi.

Melita coach Martin Gregory also made two changes as Simon Galea and Kane Micallef replaced Michael Valenzia and Nicolo Baldacchino.

7min: Nerijus Astrauskas opened his account as he tap in a low coss by Ryan Micallef.

10min: Melita equalised as Luke Micallef took some uncertain defence by Dylan Falzon.

14min: Again the Lithuanian Astrauskas tap in after Ryan Micallef shot hit the woodwork.

34min: Penalty for Melita!!!Shaun Mintoff saved Luis Armano Negrin.

Second Half

73min: Melita equalised when Negrin was served by Micallef and slotted the pas Shaun Mintoff.

82min: 8 minutes before the end of the match Michael Valenzia sent Negrin trough, who past Carpic before beaten helpless Mintoff.

90min: Rabat Ajax levelled as Spanish Fuster scored with a fine rising shot for a deserved 3-3 draw

Hibernians demolish Qormi

Hibernians maintained their 100% start to the Premier League season after capitalising on Qormi’s errors to secure an impressive win.

Rodolfo Soares opened the scoring when his header squirmed passed goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

Qormi gifted Hibernians another free kick and from the same position doubled the score when this time Andrew Cohen header get pass Matthew Farrugia.

Qormi offered little and Marcelo Dias finished off a fine run with a third as his powerful shot gave no chance to helpless Farrugia.

In the second Half Geatan Spiteri pull one back, but on the 69th minute Jackson Lima again gave Qormi the blues when he scored exactly like one of the goals he scored against Qormi in  last season U*Bet FA Trophy. On the 86thminute Geatan Spiteri made the result more respectable as he beaten Muscat for the second time.

Michael Woods’s side were well worth their victory, which took them to the top of the Premier League having scored seven goals in their opening two games.

Unsurprisingly Woods named the same team which beaten Mosta 3-2 on the opening day of the season.

Edward Herrera was not in the match day squad with reports are claiming the former Melita defender is on the verge to sign for Birkirkara.

Hibernians mentor Michael Woods made no chance from last week 3-2 victory as he fielded Bjorn Kristensen from the first minute after he had a trial in Germany this week.

Qormi coach Stephen Azzopardi made two changes as debutant Sebastian Siritto and Vincenzo Pisani started in the place of Luke Sciberras and Gabriel Buttigieg.

33min: Andrew Cohen header beaten Matthew Farrugia after another free kick by Jackson Lima.

38min: Marcelo Dias put the game with doubt as his 25 meter powerful sho gave no chance to Matthew Farrugia.

Second Half

60min: Substituted Geatan Spiteri opened his Qormi account as his shot beaten Mario Muscat.

69min: Jackson Lima scored!!!  The Brazilian scored with another trademark strike.

86min: Geatan Spiteri again reduced  the gap for Qormi.
