Young Rodren Vella is looking forward to the final round of the 2015 Tegiwa Civic Cup Championship at the Donington GP Circuit on Sunday.

This year’s experience for Rodren in the Civic Cup has been a very satisfactory one, no doubt following his race win at Anglesey Coastal Circuit.

Rodren started the 2015 Civic Championship at Donington Park Circuit with a reasonably good result finishing 12th in the first race, and an excellent 8th position in the second race.

In the second round at Brands Hatch Circuit, Rodren did even better finishing an excellent 4th in the first race, although he failed to finish in the second race.

In the third round at Croft Circuit Rodren finished in a good 11th place, and improved in the second race to place 9th.

The fourth round at Anglesey Coastal Circuit revealed Rodren’s true talent when he finished 9th in the first race, but then went on to his first career victory in the second race.

In the fifth round at Silverstone, Rodren finished in excellent 6th position in the first race, and then moved a step ahead to finish in another excellent 5th place in the second race.

The sixth round at Snetterton Circuit unfortunately brought mixed results for Rodren. He failed to finish the first lap of the first race after an opening lap racing incident, but then succeeded to gain 13 positions to finish in 9th place in the second race after starting from the last position in 22nd place!

Rodren hopes to have better luck at the Donington GP Circuit for the last round. His Civic is now fixed from the opening lap crash at Snetterton, and he is looking forward to a positive result in the closing round of the 2015 Civic Cup season.

This has been a tremendous learning experience for Rodren, and given that we do not have a home circuit where he may train, his achievement is even greater.

Hopefully things will change for local racing drivers after this week’s call for expressions of interest in a Malta Motor Recreation and Education Park.

It would be interesting to watch Rodren and all the other Maltese racing drivers battle against foreign drivers at home in various categories of racing, if and when a local circuit is developed.

sportinmalta.com and all the Maltese followers of Motorsport wish Rodren the best of luck and success at the Donington GP Circuit.
