Return of the Hilly Clothing Birzebbugia 10K

After a year’s hiatus, on the 3rd of July St. Patrick’s AC are once again holding a 10K race in Birzebbugia.

“Last year we held our summer race in Marsaskala.  It was an experiment and it went quite well,” race director Joe Zerafa commented.  ”However, a lot of athletes commented on how much they liked the Birezebbugia route so much that we decided to return here for this year’s race with the Hilly Clothing Birzebbugia 10K.”

One change, however, from the past is that the race is now being held on a Sunday morning instead of a Friday evening as was the case in the past.  ”As the weather starts heating up we have to keep in mind the athlete’s safety.  The high levels of humidity and a day’s heat made it more taxing on the runners, especially if combined with the tiredness of a day’s work, so we’ve opted to go with a Sunday morning run starting at eight in the morning.  There’s also the added benefit of less traffic which is a major factor for athletes.”

St. Patrick’s AC are also continuing the recent trend of holding a walkathon which is open to those who want take in a 5K route and who aren’t yet comfortable with running the whole distance.  There will also be the traditional 2K run for junior athletes.

This year’s races are being sponsored by the Malta International Challenge Marathon, Hilly Clothing, Nestle Fitness, Ronhill, Ray Sun products, The Fitness Corner and Isostar.  Application forms can be downloaded from the club’s website www.stpatricksac.info.
