13.10.2015: Senior Sirens swimmer, Emily Grech Carr broke an age group record on Saturday during the first ASA time trials of the season at tal-Qroqq.

In her 50m freestyle, Grech Carr swam the event in 32.80 seconds beating Francesca Falzon Young’s previous Group A record of 32.82 seconds set in 2011.

“It’s a brilliant start to the season,” said Head Coach, Daniela Deguara Gatt. ” In fact, many of the swimmers produced excellent personal bests,  but perhaps not so surprising given the amount of work the squads have put in over  the summer.”

Apart from a short break following the 2015 National Championships, the Sirens swimmers trained every day during the holiday, including two swimming camps in the UK and Slovenia.

In August, four  elite squad swimmers, together with Ms Deguara Gatt, travelled to Repton School Sports Centre, one of the top swimming schools in the UK and home of World Champion Adam Peaty, to take part in an five day intensive training course.  Working with coaches who have trained the triple gold medallist, the squad took part in land, gym and swim training and, however gruelling, still described it as one of the best experiences of the summer.

To close the summer training programme in September,  the Sirens swimming team and waterpolo players, along with Starlites basketball players, coaches and parents travelled to Ptuj, Slovenia.  The week long training camp focused on technical competency ahead of the 2015/2016 winter season.
