Record Participation for Birkirkara St. Joseph Garmin Malta – Gozo – Malta, Open Water Swimming Championship this Saturday

Over 130 swimmers will be taking the plunge this Saturday when they will be undertaking the annual Birkirkara St Joseph Garmin Malta – Gozo – Malta and Gozo-Malta Open Water Swimming Championship, which is being held under the auspices of the Aquatic Sports Assocation of Malta (ASA).

The Malta-Gozo-Malta 11km route will see fourteen swimmers (9 males and 5 females) taking part whilst the 5.9m km route from Hondoq Bay in Gozo will see 86 males and 37 females take part.

Qualification for this race entailed the participation of three of the 2km races that form part of the Birkirkara St Joseph 2017 Open Water Swimming Series, as well as having taken part in the four-kilometre event registered a time equal to or less than 1 hour 20 minutes.

The Malta-Gozo-Malta race will start at 6:30am whilst the Gozo-Malta leg will start at 8:15am. First swimmers from the 11km swim will be expected to arrive at approximately 9:30am whilst the first swimmers from the Gozo-Malta segment should complete the distance in approximately 1 hour 30 mins.

Presentation of trophies will take place immediately after the Race at approximately 11:30hrs and will be presided by Mr. Joe Caruana Curran, ASA of Malta President.  The Race is being supported by Garmin (Malta) and the Ramla Bay Hotel.
