The Bank of Valletta Gozo Weekend Regatta, to be held on the 14th and 16th November, is a popular event welcomed by members and friends of the Royal Malta Yacht Club who look forward to a relaxing weekend after the excitement of the Rolex Middle Sea Race in October.

Strong interest in participation has already been registered and the Club is expecting a record number of entries for this weekend’s event. The races will include a passage race for all Classes, from Marsamxett (Malta) to Mgarr (Gozo) on Friday. Saturday will see a series of windward-leeward races close to Gozo, with Cruising Classes and Double Handed Classes sailing a maximum of two short coastal races starting and finishing in Mgarr, Gozo.

Sunday’s events will be similar and will end with a passage race from Mgarr, Gozo and ending in Marsamxett.

“We are pleased to see that the enthusiasm and excitement experienced during the Middle Sea Race in October has spilled over into the month of November resulting in a record number of participants,” said Godwin Zammit, Commodore, Royal Malta Yacht Club. “Our collaboration with Bank of Valletta goes back several years and we are grateful for the continuous support they show us”.

As usual, socialising plays an important part of the agenda with the popular Happy Hour being held on Friday afternoon and a get-together scheduled for Saturday evening. Registrations will be accepted by the Club until noon, Wednesday 12th November and a Race briefing will be held on Wednesday evening at the Royal Malta Yacht Club at 7pm. The event will wrap up on Friday 21st November when the Prize Giving evening will be held.

“Bank of Valletta can trace its ties with the yachting community to the early 1980’s, most notably the BOV Spring Series which it supported for a period of eight consecutive years,” said Horace Laudi, Gozo Regional Manager at Bank of Valletta. “Bank of Valletta is a strong supporter of sporting events on the Maltese Islands as part of its tangible contribution towards the Maltese Community”.
