A competition in Air-Rifle & Air-Pistol Shooting was held last Saturday at the Bidnija Airgun Ranges. This was the first competition in new format that will form part of a Summer League and will help the shooters to keep up with their training in preparation for their participation in the Welsh Airgun Championships to take place in Cardiff next October.

In searing heat and high humidity, all the shooters tried to put on their best performance and achieve the high scores that they obtained in Sicily last month. After some enduring matches, Lawrence Darmanin made a good comeback after some 5 months being sidelined with injuries, to win the air-rifle event with a 548 score. He was followed in second place with a tied score by Annabel Borg and Michael Xuereb both scoring 507 points. The latter shooter was then declared 2nd on count-back.

In the ‘mixed’ Air-Pistol event, Ray Cacciattolo obtained the highest score of the afternoon to take first place with a score of 541 points ahead of Eleanor Bezzina who took 2nd place with a score of 528 points. Martin Greach was third with a 508 score while Josette Calleja was 4th with a score of 487 points.

The Shooting League continues in 2 week’s time with another challenging competition in air-rifle and air-pistol and which is open to all club members.
