Full points for okmalta.com, Fina

Week five of the current MSV Life National league produced a four-all draw for leaders Ramis against Salitos, while full point victories for both okmalta.com and Royal Shock (against The Clan and Turu’s Knights respectively) meant that those two teams stand level with Ramis on 32 points at the top of the table. Ramis only remain in first place due to their superior total pinfall to date. There was also an eight point result for Fina against Gladiators, while Grolsch managed a majority win in their match against Middlesea Insurance.

Ramis could easily have been knocked out of their lofty position in their week five meeting with Salitos, were it not for a low second game for the latter. Salitos won the extremely close opening game 805 – 808, before dropping to a poor 680 in game two, allowing Ramis to draw level with a straight 800. Salitos then ralied to win the third of the series 754 – 802, but that middle game proved to be their downfall, as Ramis clinched the series points and so force the draw, by 69 pins (2359 – 2290). Benny Hili (Salitos), 565. John Balani (Ramis), 681, male bowler of the week.

Okmalta.com stay second after their thrashing of The Clan, 123 pins down on Ramis. The Clan loked as if they may garner something of the confrontation, losing the opener with a sound 791 against okmalta.com’s 820 winner, but then they slipped up in game two, losing it 696 – 822 to allow their opponents to strengthen their advantage. A 708 – 833 game three score line handed all eight to okmalta.com, leaving The Clan down in seventh place. Neil Sullivan (okmalta.com), 652. Giancarlo Tolu (The Clan), 529.

Royal Shock are the third team sharing the lead on points, having easily disposed of a disappointing Turu’s Knights foursome this week. The Knights remain rooted to the foot of Division I as a consequence of this latest drubbing, in which the series scores progressed: 744 – 668, 788 – 760, 817 – 734. Joe Cassar (Royal Shock), 630. Ramon Casha (Turu’s Knights), 560.

The third 100% victory of the night went to Fina who are now fourth, with fifth placed Gladiators ending up on the losing side. Fina just pipped okmalta.com for the team series of the week by a mere four pins (2479), as they bagged all eight with a 788 – 824 starter, followed by a close 779 – 792 game two win to go four up. Game three was their best of the set, the 731 – 863 result guaranteeing them all eight points on offer. Sue Abela (Fina), 680, female bowler of the week. Jean Marc Galea (Gladiators), 559.

Grolsch are at least temporarily out of the relegation zone thanks to their majority win in week five, against Middlesea Insurance, who replace them in ninth place. The eventual winners opened their scoring account with a tight 710 – 721 game one win, before Middlesea bounced back to level matters with a 786 – 752 win in game two. Grolsch then made sure of the major share of the points with a 695 – 766 game three settler. Colin Attard, Tony Paris (Grolsch) both on 551. Stephen Falzon (Middlesea Insurance), 536.
