Rabat Ajax register third win of the season

Final Score: Rabat Ajax 3-1 Vittoriosa Stars

Rabat Ajax beat promotion favourites Vittoriosa Stars 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. It was a very positive performance for the Magpies to climb to second place joint with Birzebugia and Zejtun Corinthians with nine points from three games, one point adrift of leaders Pieta Hotspurs.

Vittoriosa suffered their first defeat of the season and have seven points from three games.

In today’s first match amateurs Melita won against bottom place St Patrick 2-1 thanks to Luke Micallef and Kane Micallef goals.

Also yesterday Zejtun Corinthians continued their positive run after they overcame helpless St Andrews. The Blues goals was scored by Gers Delia.

Dingli Swallows and Naxxar shared a 1-1 draw. On loan striker Warren Chircop gave the lead to the Swallows but later on Glenn Magri equalised for the Reds.

In today’s match of the week coach Joe Brincat started an offensive 4-4-2 formation as Josef Dalli and Marcello Pereira formed the forward line, while Rabat Ajax mentor Silvio Vella opted for a defensive 4-5-1 formation. Captain Adam Smeir supported striker Ryan Micallef. Albanian Rustemi Arlindo was given the debut for the Whites.

First Half

First chance of the game came on the twenty one minute after Rocha Dos Santos’ clearence came to Marcello Pereira patch, who he’s shot was deflected to a corner by Rabat defender Christopher Schembri. From the Same corner Justin Tellus shot wide off the target.

Vittoriosa took the lead on the twenty seven minute after Joe Conforth fouled Marcelo Pereira in the box and Tassid Lopes Fereira score from the penalty spot.

On the fourth minute Rabat Ajax levelled thanks to debutant Rustemi who slotted home past goalkeeper jean Matthias Vella after he was served by Joseph Caruana.

Again two minutes later Rabat scored the second home after Ryan Micallef reached a long threw ball and he delivered a powerful shot in the back of net.

 Second half

 Vittoriosa was close to equalised after Adam Spiteri shot wide from marcelo Pereira cross.

Rabat sealed their third win off the season after youngster Ryan Micalllef was again threw by a perfect long through ball to slotted home past Jean Matthias Vella.

Late on the game Rabat who were always was in control tested goalkeeper Vella by Smeir’s and Rustemi’s attempts.
