White Hart   1     Hotsticks   4   Umpires   Edward Hughes    Shawn Mifsud

The first action of note in the 5th minute was a double save by the White Hart custodian after a melee in the D.    White Hart’s reaction was  immediate when a minute later Liam Azzopardi’s angled shot crept past the post.  In the 15th minute Kyle Micallef shot White Hart ahead after receiving a pass following a move down the left flank.    Hotsticks then exerted considerable pressure and in the 26thminute David Agius cleared off the line for White Hart with his goalkeeper beaten.   A minute later Ludolf Rasterhoff hit the base of the post for Hotsticks and after White Hart won a penalty corner in the 32nd minute which produced no dividends Hotsticks won one of their own a minute before half time and Steve Portelli shot his team level.

The second half was all Hotsticks.  They won four penalty corners in eleven minutes without adding to their tally.     Enjoying most of the territorial advantage, they scored two goals in as many minutes when Lukas Plaehn scored their second in the 58th minute and Ludolf Rasterhoff netted a minute later  to put his side 3 – 1 up.   They scored their fourth a minute from time when Robert Prentice shot a beauty hitting home from the top of the D to give Hotsticks a well earned victory and their second in a row.

The early exchanges did not indicate that Qormi would eventually dominate this game so emphatically.   In fact Rabat had the better of the earlier skirmishes winning three penalty corners and not being able to open the score.  After a period of midfield play, in the 27th minute Qormi counter attacked and Steve Tanti pushed home after a well worked move to send them 1 – 0 up.   They then held their own towards the end of the first half when goal mouth exchanges were few and far between, although they did not avail themselves of two penalty corner opportunities in the meantime.  The half time whistle blew seeing them hanging on to their slender lead.

Rabat attacked early in the second half but they did not capitalize from two penalty corners in the 39th and 47th minute.   Qormi then scored four goals in the space of six minutes,  Steve Tanti notching his second in the 46th minute and adding another one a minute later when his shot was deflected into goal off the defender.   John Williams netted Qormi’s fourth in the 50th minute and Jonathan Borg scored Qormi’s fifth two minutes later.   Rabat had left themselves open to Qormi’s lethal counter attacks and Keith Calleja took his side’s tally up to 6 when he converted a penalty stroke in the 63rd minute to give his side a well earned victory sending them two points clear at the top of the league table.
