Qormi Daikin Complete Clean Sweep of Honours

Qormi Daikin completed another memorable season when on Wednesday they took the Knock Out Trophy to add to the Super Cup, Challenge Cup and National League and thus taking all four competitions organised by the Hockey Association for season 2018/2019.

Not surprisingly, Wednesday’s Final against Sliema Hs was another tense, balanced affair with Qormi Daikin edging it by the odd goal in five. The difference between the two sides is minimal with Qormi being more clinical in taking the chances that came their way. A deflected goal from John Williams after 10M set Qormi on their way. Silas Plaehn, following a short corner action midway through the first half, cancelled out this goal and put the sides’ level. Qormi, however, ended the half in front when Duncan Edwards took advantage of a Sliema defensive slip to fire in from the edge of the Dee.

At this stage, Shamison Mifsud, Qormi goalkeeper, came to the fore with a string of fine saves as Sliema wrenched up the pressure in search of the equalizer. This eventually came 15M into the second half when Sliema Hs captain Shaun Grima flicked in from a short corner action. Qormi, however, were not to be denied and a few minutes later it was Duncan Edwards who got his second and the winner. James Mizzi and Shawn Mifsud umpired the game.

Qormi Daikin will now turn their attention to the Izibet Euro Hockey Club Challenge IV Men being held at the Kordin Hockey Complex between the 6th and 9th June. Together with Qormi the other teams participating will be Floriana Young Stars (MLT), Epiton HC (HUN), HC Luxembourg (LUX), Seinajoki United (FIN), HC Kilippari (FIN), Kringsja SK (NOR) and Eagles HC (GIB).
