The Gozo Football Association (GFA) ,General Soft Drinks (GSD Marketing Ltd), local producers of Coca-Cola and the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF) announced the first edition of the President’s Cup, sponsored by Coca-Cola , which is a challenge cup between the football champions of the Premier Division of the Malta Football Association (MFA) and the champions of the top division of the GFA.  This first honour will be contested between Hibernians as the reigning champions in Malta and Xewkija Tigers as the current football champions in Gozitan football. The match will take place at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday 27 December 2015 and the kick-off starts at 2:00pm.

This event is an opportunity for Gozitan football fans and football fans who happen to be in Gozo for the festive season, to follow an exhibition match of high level at a time when the championships in Malta and Gozo take a short break.

Xewkija have established themselves as one of the top teams in Gozo during the last seasons, while Hibernians have some good records in playing at the Gozo Stadium as they have been winners of different editions of the Gozo Cup. Last January, they qualifiedto the quarter finals of the Malta FA Trophy with a dramatic win over Gozo’s Nadur Youngsters.  Both Hibernians and Xewkija Tigers have the potential to produce an entertaining encounter as the two sides have a number of established footballers in local football scene.

The two sides are also in contention to defend the respective title won last season and will be facing crucial matches at the resumption when the respective championship resumes. Thus, Hibernians and Xewkija Tigers are expected to aim for a positive result in the Coca- Cola Cup to boost their confidence for the rest of the season.

The event, which should become an annual appointment in the calendar of Gozitan football, is also aimed to generate funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund is sponsored by Coca- Cola. For this purpose, all the proceeds from the event will be forwarded to the Malta Community Chest Fund. The tickets for the match cost five Euro, while those who access restricted areas, including all the players and officials, will donate ten Euro.
