Positive result for Malta’s National Boxing Team

Malta’s Senior Boxing National Team Manager, Demis Tonna and Assistant National Coach, Simon Checuti, rose up to the challenge and lead the country towards a historical team victorylast Friday 24th April 2015 on a Pete Jackson Promotion which saw eight (8) members of the Malta Boxing Association visit United Kingdom for an international club competition sanctioned by the British Boxing Union at the Copthorne Merry Hill Leisure Centre, Birmingham.


The team composed of Richard Vella (Fight Factory) stopped his opponent at the end of the first round while Christian Schembri (Fight Factory) showed that he was the superior contestant winning his bout by a unanimous decision and Sandor Turbucz (Fight Factory) won his contest by outclassing his opponent and winning the that bout by stopping his opponent inside the first minute of the second round. Mike Carter (Browns Boxing Team) improves his record to 11 wins from 22 bouts by defeating the event favourite in a unanimous points decision.  Brandon Borg (Team Spartan) controversially lost his contest but won “Fighter of the Night”, a merit of excellence an award given by the ringside officials and guests. In another controversial decision Keith Azzopardi draw his contest and Garth Galea lost by TKO. In what was a closest fought contest, Duncan Calleja pulled home another win for Malta.


An excellent result of five (5) wins, two (2) losses and one (1) draw, a very positive outcome.
