Pieta Hotspurs Youth Nursery on Friday 6th November, 2009, organised its first Football Festival for the U/16 girls.  Around eighty girls participated with a lot of enthusiasm in this festival.   Everyone present felt that female football in Malta has a bright future ahead, when watching seven U/16 girls’ teams who produced good quality football for a whole three hours.

Pieta’ Hotspurs Youth Nursery would like to thank all participating clubs namely: Birkirkara FC, Hibernians FC, Lija-Iklin FC, Mgarr FC, Pembroke FC and two Pieta Hotspurs teams.

An interesting rule in this tournament was the three goal rule where a team suffering a 3 goal difference was allowed to add another player in the pitch, in order to prevent teams from suffering an unnecessary humiliation in big defeats which might discourage girls from continuing to try very hard.  This produced the desired effect as only 3 out of 21 matches ended with results of more than a 4-goal margin.  At the end no standings and winners were issued for this tournament.  Another very positive aspect was that in 21 matches played not even a single yellow card was given.

The tournament was highly successful with the girls enthusiastic about further festivals which will be organised in the future at the Pieta Hotspurs Youth Nursery.

No yellow cards where shown during the match
