Over 300 volunteers for this year’s Volleyball Marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza

54 volunteers took part in a 12-hour trial in preparation for this year’s volleyball marathon in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza.

The trial took place in the parking area of the home in Siġġiewi.

Fr Martin Micallef, Director of id-Dar tal-Providenza, who visited the players, thanked the volunteers for their efforts in demonstrating that it is nice to give your time and energy to raise funds which ultimately should give dignity to the residents of the home.

Currently there are 100 residents in the home. Emanuel Zammit, chairman of the organizing committee of the marathon said that this year the target of the marathon, which is to be held between July 1 and 3, is to reach 53 hours of continuous playing, while providing entertainment to those present.

Mr Zammit, expressed his satisfaction that this year, the European Year dedicated to volunteers, over 300 volunteers chose to give their time for this good cause.

Michael Magro, responsible for the training of the players, and also a member of the organizing committee, said that so far the training has progressed well. “Now, that we’re closer to the marathon the training enters into an interesting and challenging phase.”
