Outdoor Handball Court Project at Zokkrija‏

The Malta Handball Associated (MHA) has recently completed the installation of the IHF approved outdoor handball court atMariaReginaBoysSecondary School, Mosta. The outdoor flooring was donated to the association by the International Handball Federation (IHF) as part of its commitment in helping handball emerging nations develop the game. The flooring, manufactured byUScompany ‘Sport Court’, is professionally designed to withstand the harshest environments including the local high summer temperatures. Sport Court International Business Manager, Mr. Ryan Burke, was inMaltalast week to supervise the installation work on the court which is backed up by a 10 year warranty. Sport Court’s surfaces bring increased shock absorption and player safety to outdoor courts. The total investment by the MHA and its partners in this project exceeds the €35,000 mark. One must also take into consideration the value of the land leased to the MHA by the local government.

 

The handball court was inaugurated by the Hon Clyde Puli Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sports on Wednesday 14th November in the presence of MHA President, Mr. Louis Borg and Kunsill Malti Ghall-iSport Chairman Mr. Bernard Vassallo. Also present were College Principal Mr. Testa, Head of school Mr. Mercieca and KMS Directors Ms Margaret Mercieca and Mr. Joe Caruana Curran

 

During the ceremony Mr. Louis Borg also donated a number of handballs to the school.

 

The MHA would like to thank the International Handball Federation and its President Mr. Hassan Moustafa for donating the outdoor court flooring and the Hon. Clyde Puli, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and the Dirctorate for Educational Services for assisting the MHA in acquiring lease of the land at the school. The MHA also appreciates the full co-operation and assistance by the school’s administration and staff.

 

The court is being used by the association for development and training purposes after 1700 on school days and all day on non-school days. The school will be using the handball court during school hours. The MHA is also working on providing flood lighting at the venue in the near future.
