Otra Vez skippered by brothers Aaron and Edward Gatt Floridia will be the second boat to have its name engraved onto the BOV Round the Islands trophy, after being named the overall winner of the 80-nautical mile race which was held last weekend.

Otra Vez edged past Christian Ripard’s and Lee Satariano’s Artie RTFX with Comanche Raider II Jonas Diamantino placing third.  Vanessa Macdonald, Head Media and Community Relations Bank ofValletta, and Godwin Zammit, Commodore of the Royal Malta Yacht Club, presented the trophies to the winners.

Sailing out from Marsamxett Harbour on Saturday morning in very light winds, crews faced the arduous task of keeping their sails filled as they rounded the south of Malta to head up towards the South Comino Channel and round Gozo.

The leading boats moved slowly into the harbour, at about 3 am on Sunday morning with Comanche Raider crossing the line first just inches in front of Otra Vez.  In his first reactions Otra Vez owner Aaron Gatt Floridia said, “We had expected a long challenging race and we were not disappointed ! The crew had to be alert all the time focusing on keeping the boat moving and making sail changes when necessary. In the end, we were very pleased with our performance and enjoyed the race thoroughly.”

This was the second time that BOV supported the race although its cooperation with the RMYC goes back several years.
