Friday, May 1, 2015, 12:54

The new ‘South Block’ at The National Pool, Tal-Qroqq will be inaugurated this Saturday on the 2nd of May. The infrastructural project cost approximately 800,000 euros.

Together with the ‘South Block’ there will also be the unveiling of the new starting blocks. The whole project is funded through ERDF and works are expected to be ready by the end of September The infrastructural works carried out included new planks to replace the old ones that had suffered irreparable damage due to the amount of water that used to enter through the showers. This continuous leakage over a number of years also damaged the stone itself. This issue was addressed by removing the damaged walls and replacing them with bricks. Moreover the most vulnerable parts were covered with membrane to provide extra protection against water leakage. The infrastructural works also incorporate new changing rooms which are now fully accessible following consultation with KNPD. The South Block also has new showers, and a state of the art Dance Hall.

This entire project is available for viewing by the general public on Sunday 3rd May during a ‘Family Fun Day’ that is being organized at The National Pool tal-Qroqq.

During this open day, which is being supported by Kristal, a number of activities like swimming competitions, synchronized swimming shows and Water polo games will take place. The latter will definitely be a crowd puller as the public can enjoy a water polo game between famous retired Water polo players against the National Under 17 Team. Apart from the outside activities there will also be classes in Zumba, Hip Hop, Dance Fitness and Circuit Training in the Dance Hall. Meanwhile darts games, table football, table tennis and squash will be organised in the Training Hall. There will also be a specific zone where the general public can apply for the Summer on the Move 2015 programme. Each and every person who applies and pays for the programme this Sunday will be given a gift voucher from our sponsors Kristal, Gram and Teamsport.

Participation in all these activities is completely free of charge however the general public is encouraged to give a donation to “Dar tal-Providenza’. Dar tal-Providenza provides a family environment to people with disabilities surrounded by dedicated staff who love and protect them and whose dedication offer the most beneficial support to his and her development. To run such a place many thousands of euros are needed each year and funding relies on the generosity of its benefactors and public donations. For this reason Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport is giving its full support to this cause through this occasion.

Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport invites the public to attend this special event which is sure to be very entertaining and fun for people of all ages.
