No Triestina dream for Agius

The dream was so close but yet so far for Malta’s International defender Andrei Aguis as over the weekend he was about to agree terms with Italian Serie B team Triestina. But things got complicated for the Maltese as he was on top of the Agenda at Triestina’s latest administration council where it was decided to stop talks with the Maltese player due to possible litigation issues between the players of the current squad as a prominent player had to be dropped from the Northern team to make way for Agius’ arrival. This is due to an Italian Lega regulation imposing a limitation to Serie B teams in a certain age bracket.

Andrei Agius will be playing for Birkirkara till May 2011

Agius is set now to join Birkirkara till the end of the 2010/11 season as a fixed central defender role in what can be described to be a depleted defence in the last Stripe’s outings. This signing was possible thanks to the regular contacts that Paul Zammit had with the player over the past weeks and which were finalized on Sunday afternoon. Close sources to the player had given us the impression that Agius was set to pencil a two year and a half deal with the professional side Triestina but it seems that the adventure did not materialize.
