Next Free Community Bike Ride: Sunday 6th March – St. Paul’s Bay to Bugibba

Wednesday, March 2, 2011, 10:45

Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS) in collaboration with the Malta Cycling Federation (MCF) will be organising the next scheduled free community bike ride this Sunday 6th March starting at 11.00 a.m. from St. Paul’s Bay (Olympic Garden) to Bugibba. These bike rides represent a unique opportunity for new and less confident bike riders to gain experience, as bike rides are taken at a moderately pace and normally last an hour or two, ideal for those not ready to take a full day’s bike ride. No riders are left behind as riders are kept together with a lead and follow-up car.

Registration takes place at 10.45 a.m. A pick up point along the route for younger riders will be set up at the beginning of Pionner Road, Bugibba; youngsters have to be present at 11.30am. The bike ride should finish around noon. Cyclists should note that the route is not circular and will need to make arrangements to return to their cars. Alternatively interested persons can book a bike and helmet made available by the KMS against no payment (kindly book in advance as limited amount available). If it is your first time riding with us, arrive about 15 minutes early to ensure all in order.

Full safety measures are taken during all bike rides.  All cyclists are required to wear a helmet and stay with the group; apart from a lead car there are also back up teams, traffic police and an ambulance on standby following the group. Water will also be distributed free of charge. Through this bike ride, the KMS continues its endeavour to provide opportunities to encourage and enhance sport participation among all members of society.
