National swimming squad in Luxembourg Euromeet

A national record by swimmer Andrea Agius was achieved last saturday during the second day of the 14th Edition of the Luxembourg Euromeet, where Agius clocked 2.37.83 in the 200 breastroke event, bettering his own record from 2.28.30. The international swimming event split over three days, was also a qualifying event for the London Olympics this summer and was attended by no less than 398 swimmers  (mostly European) from 27 nations, including top names like Ian Thorpe (AUS) and other European names such as Hugues Duboscq (FR) and Markus Deibler (GR) amongst others, and National Squads of Israel and Ukraine.

The Team of Maltese swimmers also included Andrea M. Agius, Chanice Cassar, Julian Harding, Mikaela Millo, Nicola Muscat and Mark Sammut. Both Nicola Muscat and Mark Sammut came close to breaking national records while Andrea M Agius and Julian Harding both recorded personal best times.

Julian Harding netted two medals, a silver in the 50 fly event with a time of 27.36 and a bronze medal in the 100 fly event in the Youth category. Team Malta was under the tutelage of national coach Andy Colbourn.
